For CA Nimsoft Monitor

You can use the log file for a probe as a starting point when troubleshooting problems. The log file is stored in each probe’s individual folder in your Nimsoft installation. For example, the default location for the maintenance_mode log file would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Nimsoft\probes\service\maintenance_mode for Windows, and /opt/nimsoft/probes/service/maintenance_mode for Linux.

Each probe log file has two settings that can be changed using either the individual probe GUIs or the Raw Configure Menu:

Logging Level

The logging level is the amount of detail that is written to the log file. The log levels that you can specify are:

  • Level 0- Logs only severe messages.
  • Level 1- Logs errors.
  • Level 2- Logs warnings.
  • Level 3- Logs informational messages.
  • Level 4- Logs debugging messages.
  • Level 5- Logs tracing/low-level debugging messages.

For troubleshooting purposes, CA recommends setting the logging level to 3 at minimum.

Log File Size

The log file size is the maximum size of the log file before it rolls over. Each log file can hold a maximum of 1024 KB of data.
