For CA Unified Infrastructure Manager (UIM)
There are many CA Unified Infrastructure Management probes available to monitor devices in your environment. For example, you might use the cdm probe to monitor disks, memory and CPU utilization. And the mysql probe to monitor your database. Or the ntperf probe to collect performance data for your Windows NT system.
It takes time to manually deploy probes to all the devices you want to monitor, and then configure the probes one at a time on each device. Why not simplify this task by using Monitoring Configuration Service (MCS), a new feature in Unified Service Manager (USM)?
Using Monitoring Configuration Service lets you create a set of monitoring configuration profiles for a target device in your environment. When your configuration generates the monitoring results you need, you can simply copy the configuration profiles to other devices that require the same level of monitoring. And if monitoring probes have not been deployed to target devices, MCS automatically deploys them for you.
Create a Configuration Profile
You can create, test, and then copy configuration profiles to other devices in your environment. Copying configuration profiles reduces the time that it takes you to configure monitoring for your environment, and also provides consistent monitoring for groups of target devices.
In USM, devices appear as stand-alone devices or as members of USM groups. It’s best to learn how to create configuration profiles on a stand-alone device or a device that is a member of only one USM group.
Follow these steps:
- To access Monitoring Configuration Service, go to USM and click the Monitoring tab.
- In the left pane, select a device.
Profile types that apply to the selected device appear in the middle column. If no profile types appear, deploy a robot to the selected device. - Hover over a profile type name in the middle pane, and then click ‘+‘ to add a profile.
- (Optional) Some profiles require the probe to be running on a target device. If you see a dialog asking if you want the probe to be installed, select Yes. MCS deploys the probe from the Local Archive to the target device.
- Configure general profile settings, select QoS metrics, and set alarm thresholds.
- Create the configuration profile.
- Scroll to the bottom of the configuration settings and wait until the Profile Status indicates that the profile has been successfully deployed.
- Click the Copy profile check box and specify the target device for the copy operation.
