CA UIM 8.4 has been updated to utilize a new API to process alarm data. This Alarm API is currently in use throughout CA UIM, including the following components:
- Dashboards
- List Designer
- Performance Reports Designer
- USM
In addition to the Alarm API, an optional Event Management Service (ems) probe is also available. The ems probe is a core event and alarm management service for CA UIM. Note that while the Alarm API is always in use within CA UIM, the ems probe is an optional component that you must deploy and configure separately. The nas probe is still the default alarm service in CA UIM.
The ems probe can fully coexist with nas. Using an Alarm Routing Service deployed within the new trellis probe, you can choose to route alarms to nas, ems, or both.
You can also use several XML files, known as Catalogs, to:
- Create custom ems rules.
- Configure nas to ems conversion.
- Define new types of ems events.
The ems probe does not write its data to the UIM database. To access ems event and alarm data, you must use the Alarm API. The Alarm API can retrieve alarm data from both ems and nas.
For more information about ems and the Alarm API, see the ems probe documentation.
